Challenge
(01)
Create an illustration that responded to PaperWise, while also feeling unmistakably like my own work.
For PeterPrint’s Sampleboek, I was invited to create an illustration for PaperWise. I was given this paper because my work already has a natural softness and an organic, graphic quality that felt like a good match for its character. At the same time, I wanted to use the project to show something more personal: the imagery and atmosphere I am naturally drawn to myself. The challenge was to bring those two things together in one image.

Translation
(02)
The illustration grew from the meeting point between material and instinct.
PaperWise has a soft, natural appearance, and that immediately suggested a quieter kind of image. I did not want to force something loud or overly polished onto it. Instead, I leaned into what already felt close to my own practice: nature, atmosphere, organic forms and a slower rhythm. That made the project feel like a combination of response and recognition. The paper asked for something subtle and tactile, and I answered with an image that also reflected my own visual interests more openly.

Outcome
(03)
The final piece feels both materially connected and personally rooted.
The result is an illustration that works with the natural quality of the paper rather than against it. The fibres, softness and warmth of the sheet support the mood of the image, while the subject and visual language make space for something more personal as well. This project is a good example of how I like to work when things really click: when material, concept and my own visual instincts all start pulling in the same direction.
